Selon le scientifique James Lovelock : La Terre pourrait avoir une augmentation de température de 8 degrés celcius, ce qui condamnerait des milliards d'humains. Une planète chaude comme cela ne pourrait supporter plus de 500 millions d'humains. Tous les systèmes terrestres réagissent fortement à l'augmentation des températures et bientôt l'effet du dioxide de carbone sera minime à comparer de ce qui nous attend. Même si cela peut sembler amoral, il ne sert à rien d'essayer de baisser les émissions de gaz ou d'appliquer Kyoto, il est déjà trop tard, il serait préférable d'investir dans la préparation de ce qui s'en vient.
